A Cosmelan® peel differs from other skin lightening treatments or chemical peels in its ingredients, which are designed to treat the specific symptoms of Melasma.
Melasma is a pigment disorder of the cells resulting in dark patches on the face, often with distinct edges. Melasma can occur in both men and women, and can often be seen on the cheekbones, forehead, nose and upper lip but can develop in other areas of the face. There are a number of factors that can trigger Melasma including:
Hormones: External hormones such as birth control pills and Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) or pregnancy can bring on Melasma. When Melasma occurs during pregnancy it is known as the “pregnancy mask”.
Thyroid disease: The incidence of Melasma also increases in patients with thyroid disease.
Sun Exposure: UV exposure is the leading cause of Melasma Hyperpigmentation and the patches tend appear darker in the summer months .Melasma has long been one of the toughest skin conditions to treat because discolouration lies so deep within the skin's layers and is hard for medications to target.
Cosmelan peel is the world’s number one whitening treatment and can effectively reduce skin discolouration by up to 80%.
Cosmelan® treatments can improve the appearance of:
Cosmelan is a depigmentation agent, which acts by decreasing melanin from the skin. Melanin is responsible for the darkening of the skin and contributing to such factors as melasma and other skin discolourations. Melanin is increased by sun exposure, acne, ageing, and hormone fluctuation. Cosmelan has the ability to inhibit an enzyme (tyrosinase) that is involved in the process of causing skin darkening. Cosmelan leads to a decrease in melanin synthesis and hence to a decrease in darkened skin color.
Cosmelan peel contains Azelaic Acid, which kills bacteria on the surface of the skin and boosts new skin cell production; and Kojic Acid, which is an acid that is derived from several different types of naturally-existing fungi and which inhibits the production of melanin in the skin
The process starts with an initial consultation to check your suitability for the Cosmelan peel. After this I will ask you to re-book for the actual peel treatment.
The skin is cleansed and degreased to help the peel product penetrate deeper into the skin. The peel mask is then applied and allowed to dry. The client leaves with the clinic with the mask on and leaves it on for 8-12 hours. The mask is then washed off after this time and home care products can be used.
Post-treatment you can expect to experience some peeling and redness and your skin will have a prolonged sensitivity to the sun. Most peeling will occur in the first week after treatment but dryness, tightness and slight soreness may continue for up to 4 weeks.
A single in-clinic treatment. You should expect to use a Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream for 6 months after the initial peel treatment to ensure the Melasma doesn’t return. The initial package cost includes your prep peel, Cosmelan mask, and the 6 month supply of maintenance products which includes 2 pots of Cosmelan 2 Cream.
You should start to see substantial improvement after just two weeks. Blemishes, pigmented patches will start to diminish and skin will start to look brighter.
More significant results can be seen at the end of the second week post treatment and in 99% of cases involving blemishes or abnormal hyperpigmentation of epidermal origin, the blemish elimination process achieved a 95% efficacy rate.
Dermaplaning is a safe, effective way to rejuvenate the overall health and appearance of your skin.
It is a non-invasive, easy, fast and painless approach to helping your skin stay refreshed and young. It requires the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently 'shave' the skins surface, removing the top-most layer of dead skin along with fine, vellus hair/peach fuzz. This hair can trap dirt and oil causing breakouts and a dull complexion.
The process of dermaplaning is one of:
- Removing dead skin cells. - Minimising old skin scars from acne or sun damage. - Smoothing your skin, removing fine hairs. - Reducing the visibility of large pores or skin pigment variation. - Releasing clogged pores and encouraging your skin to produce new skin cells and collagen for a more youthful appearance.
A mild Salicylic Peel is performed at the beginning of the treatment, which is suitable for all skin types, particularly dry, oily and acne prone. It controls oil production, reduces the size of pores and unifies skin tone.
The results are immediate and there is very little down time. Unlike other exfoliating treatments such as microdermabrasion, Dermaplaning is suitable for nearly all skin types. The physical exfoliation triggers the cell regeneration process and allows products to better penetrate the skin.
I use the Mesoestetic professional skincare range.
Dermal Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a form of digital collagen induction using fine needles to perforate the skin and encourage natural collagen deposition. The needles sit within a cartridge in a pen like device, which is filled with a serum specific to your skin type that is delivered into the skin at the time of the treatment.
The increase in trauma that it causes leads to increased results as it stimulates the body’s natural healing functions more. The needles penetrate into the skin through the epidermis and deposit the serums deeper down into the dermal-epidermal junction, leading to longer lasting results. A mild Salicylic Peel is performed prior to the needling to prep the skin.
Dermal Needling is suitable for clients with skin issues such as acne scars, fine lines and deeper set lines and wrinkles. The beauty of Dermal Needling is that it targets the problem areas more directly by penetrating the skin. Redness can usually last for 24 hours.
